Pet Tortoises are more prone to bacterial and fungal infections than many other reptilians as they are constantly in contact with their own fecal discharge in the aquarium environment. Inappropriate living environment and husbandry can result in infections. If you suspect a mouth infection in your tortoise, or if there is significant soreness, inflammation, discharge, disfigurement in any parts of the animal, or if the reptile shows a decrease in activity or appetite, it is extremely important to take it to reptile veterinarian as soon as possible. It can be very difficult to treat infections after the bone and deeper tissues are affected.
